Water: The Harbinger of Life

The issue of water scarcity is exacerbated by not taking action. In India, more than 160 million people face a daily struggle to access clean water. As water is essential to ensure development in rural economies, we began empowering communities by helping them implement sustainable water management. By integrating sustainable water strategies such as water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and the construction of check dams, we have ensured a constant flow of water throughout the village. Today, not only have these communities become self-sufficient, but all enjoy the fruits of their labour with a water table that boasts provisions for the next 25 years.

Check Dams

Change starts when the walk for water ends. As an essential element of vital importance, water ensures the improvement of rural livelihoods. In order to avoid wasting even a single drop of water, we have built over 200 check dams in and around the previously water-scarce region of Shirpur. Today, with replenished lands and several crops cultivated due to the water supply, this method is known as the Shirpur Pattern.

Water and Sanitisation

Understanding the plight of the locals, we helped set up a water filtration unit that provides up to 60 lac litres of clean water every week. With 24/7 access to clean water, we strive to facilitate progress in rural communities. Astitva also helped construct sewage plants for better health and sanitation conditions. Thus, along with adequate hydration, quality hygiene has also been maintained.

Livelihood Through Water

Water forms the basis of life. In addition to being an essential element for agricultural production and nutrition, water ensures numerous opportunities for farming and employment. Today more than 60,000 families have benefited from our newfound water conservation measures. After all, better living conditions create a better way of life worth living.
